Bush Library transportation fund now available for all Texas Title I schools

DALLAS (8/22/14) – Today the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the George W. Bush Foundation, are renewing and expanding the “George W. Bush Foundation Student Transportation Fund” to include all Title I schools in the state of Texas.

With support from the CFP Foundation and the Longwell Family Foundation, the transportation fund will reimburse the cost of field-trip buses for qualifying schools that participate in the Title I education program – which provides funding to local school districts to help improve education and learning opportunities for disadvantaged students in all grades.

Entering its second year, the transportation fund program - which was used by over 100 schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth region last year - will make it easier for students and teachers to tour exhibits and access other resources offered at the Bush Library and Museum.

“Education is one of our primary missions, and we are proud that last year with the transportation fund program we were able to make a difference in the lives of over 9,000 students in the DFW area,” said Alan Lowe, the director of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

“Now with our wonderful partnership with the Bush Foundation and generous sponsors, we have been able to renew and expand this important program that helps make this historic institution more accessible for all students in Texas,” he added.

Organized school groups that book their visits to the GWB Library in advance already receive free admission. Now with the addition of the transportation fund to all Title I schools in Texas, a visit to the GWB Library is a more affordable trip for schools outside the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

The transportation fund will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so schools are urged to fill out the “George W. Bush Foundation Student Transportation Fund Application” located at http://bit.ly/bush43transfund as soon as possible.

Applicants should remember the following items:

  • Bus funds are only available for any Title I school in Texas;
  • Schools will be refunded through reimbursement;
  • Schools may request up to four buses;
  • Schools must submit their bus application at the same time as their field trip request application;
  • Funds available on a first-come, first-served basis,
  • And all applications can be found on our website, at http://bit.ly/bush43teachersapps.
