A Season of Stories

A Season of Stories: Christmas at the White House 2003

November 19, 2015 - January 3, 2016

Admission into special exhibits and special programs on the day of attendance is included with your Museum admission ticket.

In 2003, the Christmas theme, A Season of Stories, combined the wonder of the season with the magic of classic children's stories that have captured America's hearts and minds for generations. Among the exhibit's artifacts are one-of-a-kind decorations designed and hand-crafted by White House Residence staff members. Once displayed throughout the State Rooms, they depict replicas of beloved storybook characters. Literary figures and scenes on display include Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Cat in the Hat, The Polar Express, and Harry Potter.

Did You Know . . . in 2003 the gingerbread replica of the White House was more than six feet wide and 3 feet tall. White House pastry chefs used 80 pounds of gingerbread, 45 pounds of chocolate, and 30 pounds of marzipan to create it!

Holiday Programs and Events

A number of holiday programs and events are hosted each year by the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

White House Christmas Tree

The beautiful 2003 White House Christmas tree, re-created for Museum visitors, showcases beloved literary figures on its ornaments. Like many families who decorate their trees with ornaments passed down from parents and grandparents, the 2003 Fraser fir was decorated with ornaments first used by Barbara Bush in 1989. The Christmas tree in the special exhibit features many of these same ornaments.

From 2002 through 2008, Barney and Miss Beazley hosted a series of holiday videos. Recorded by the White House Communications Agency, watch the 2003 Barney Cam video - "Barney Reloaded."
